Basal cell hyperplasia (BCH) and squamous metaplasia (SM) in the small bronchi distant from the tumor is associated with a high risk of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) recurrence. Here, we assessed whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT), or adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) is effective to prevent recurrence in NSCLC patients (n=171) with different premalignant lesions in the small bronchi.
BCH, SM, and dysplasia (D) were identified in the samples of lung tissue distant from the tumor. NSCLC patients were treated by surgery, different combinations of NAC and IORT, and AC.
Based on the type of bronchial lesions, NSCLC patients were classified into four groups BCH
SM
D
(55.6%, 95/171), BCH
SM
D
(26.3%; 45/171), BCH

D
(6.4%, 11/171), and BCH

(11.7%, 20/171). During 5 years, recurrent carcinoma was found in 13.4% (23/171) of patients and represented by metachronous metastases in the thoracic lymph nodes (82.6%, 19/23) and by a relapse in the bronchial stump (17.4%, 4/23). Recurrence was frequent in BCH

patients (87.0%, 20/23), rare in BCH

and BCH

D
patients (13.0%, 3/23), and absent in BCH

D
patients (0/23). The 5-year recurrence-free survival was also shorter in BCH
SM
D
patients (HR 27.35; 95% CI 6.31-118.48; P<0.0001). In the high-risk (BCH
SM
D
) group, recurrence occurred mainly in cases without NAC and IORT (88.2%, 15/17) and was absent (0/15) when these therapies were combined. NAC- and IORT-negative patients also showed poor overall survival (HR 4.35; 95% CI 1.96-9.66; P<0.0001) and tended to have decreased recurrence-free survival (P=0.075). Importantly, the recurrence rate was not different between AC-treated and AC-naïve BCH
SM
D
patients.
The combination of NAC and IORT is an effective strategy to prevent recurrence in high-risk NSCLC patients.

The objective of this consensus from Chinese experts was to summarize the current application and give reference for the future development of UniVATS in the treatment of lung cancer. A panel of 41 experts from 21 Chinese hospitals was invited to join this project. The Delphi method was used in this consensus consisting of two rounds of voting. The questionnaire was based on the current clinical evidence. Forty (97.6%) experts completed the 2 rounds of questionnaires. The experts’ experience was relatively similar. We defined the UniVATS as monitor-dependent surgery, no use of rib-spreading and single incision less than 4 cm. Tumor with stage of T1-T3 and N0-N2 is considered amenable to UniVATS. Other consensus was reached on several points outlining the safety and feasibility, surgical skills, learning curve, short-term and long-term outcomes for lung cancer, and current application of subxiphoid and nonintubated UniVATS approach. This consensus statement represents a collective agreement among Chinese experts to suggest that UniVATS is an effective alternative to multi-portal approach, although high-level evidence is expected in the future. Some agreements can be referred in the training of young surgeons.Human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) has gained clinical importance due to its ability to promote wound healing. Due to its commercial applications and high market demand, recombinant EGF has been produced in several forms. Currently, plant expression system is considered as potential alternative for low-cost recombinant protein production. learn more Hence, this study focused on improving the production of hEGF in plants by effective gene construct design and optimizing the Agrobacterium culture conditions for high protein production. In this context, hEGF gene was cloned into plant geminiviral expression vector pBYR2e and transformed in to N. benthamiana leaves via., agroinfiltration. The recombinant hEGF was purified from the plant crude extracts by single-step affinity chromatography. Furthermore, the plant-produced hEGF has shown to promote cell migration comparable to commercial hEGF in HaCaT cells in vitro. These results indicated the potential of plant expression system for the production of recombinant hEGF for tissue engineering applications. This work presents the method and apparatus for the reproduction of the electrode-entropy differentiation approach which provides a tool to nondesctructively determine the contribution of each electrode to the battery total entropy by performing a comparative study with another battery which shares the same composition for only one of its electrodes (semi-similar types). The 2 cells must go through the same aging process so the proposed method can be applied as follow. Firstly, an optional pre-processing step is performed, followed by linear regression between capacity loss and entropy evolution over the full SOC range. Then, a correlation is computed for each SOC value between the entropy evolution of the two cells. The result of that correlation shows at which SOC the evolution of the two cells is similar. Postulating that half-cells of the same chemistry going under the same aging conditions age the same way, the common-mode highlighted by the correlation is the SOC-domain at which the entropy of the common half-cell is dominating. This method allows improves prior art by removing the need for custom-made half-cells of the same battery composition. The feasibility of the electrode-entropy differentiation methods is postulated, and the method is detailed. A validation study is performed on a set of batteries and the method feasibility is confirmed by the results obtained. This paper•Demonstrates the feasibility of extracting the entropy from the comparative study between the subject cell and a reference.•Includes a validation test.•Suggest application of the method in the field of electrodes diagnosis.
