Tempie
In the movie Tempie’s Dad, Divonne Coward’s daughter falls in love with a black coachman. Tempie’s father discovers this relationship, locks her in her room, and begs her to leave. But Tempie is determined to get her Negro man and go on to college. She is about to graduate from Wilbur Cross High School.
Vada
Vada’s mom died during childbirth and she struggles with intense guilt ever since. Her father, however, seems to ignore her, assuming she’s a normal 11-year-old with no special needs. He’s too busy dating another woman and ignoring Vada’s problems, and she tries to sabotage her relationship with her dad. But what is she doing to ruin her relationship with her dad?
Nick is the step-son of her uncle’s girlfriend and she asks him to take her to see her old school. Nick, who’s annoyed at first, agrees to show Vada around L.A. While Nick is at first annoyed that Vada is giving up her spring break, he eventually helps her learn more about her mother. Together, they meet old friends, which teaches Vada more about her mother.
During the movie, Vada and Thomas J. become re-enchanted with each other and start a relationship. Although they’re still friends, the two share a special bond. Vada learns that her mother’s death wasn’t her fault. After learning the truth about her mother’s death, Vada and Thomas J. share their first kiss. Afterwards, podcast returns her mood ring to her dad and they spend time together.
Tempie’s father
Tempie’s father was a farmer. When Tempie James fell in love with her Negro coachman, her father locked her in her room and begged her to leave. This did not stop Tempie from falling in love with her Negro lover and becoming an activist. Eventually, she married the Negro coachman and lived happily ever after. Tempie was able to marry the coachman, and they had three children, including a son and a daughter.

Tempie’s mother
Ella Fitzgerald was born on April 25, 1917. She was the daughter of Temperance and Joseph da Silva. They separated soon after Ella’s birth, and Temperance moved to Yonkers, New York with her boyfriend, Joseph Da Silva. When Tempie was fifteen, her mother died. She was orphaned and vulnerable during the Great Depression. Despite her circumstances, she never lost her love for music.
Tempie’s father, Daniel, had four children. The first was born in New Haven. Danielle was named after her cousin. The other three are still alive. Tempie is about to graduate from Wilbur Cross High School. Her mother, Shirley, remembers Danielle often. Her father died a short time later, and they still think about her. Tempie is the youngest of the four children.
